The short version: we keep very little

Who we are

Swoop is run by the operator of Swoop. A contact address will be published here before launch.

What we store about you

  • Your email address, to send sign-in links. It’s never shown publicly or shared.
  • Your public name (handle) and, if you choose one, your favourite club.
  • Your forecasts, each with the time you made it, plus the transfers you follow.
  • A short-lived hash of your IP address when you ask for a sign-in link, only to stop abuse.
We don’t sell data, show ads, or use tracking or advertising cookies.

Why

To run your account and the game you signed up for (our contract with you), and to keep the service secure and honest (our legitimate interests).

Analytics

We count visits ourselves, without cookies or third parties. Each visit is reduced to a code that changes every day and can’t be traced back to you, so we can see how many people visited today, not who they were. When you’re signed in, we also note which features you use, so we can tell whether people come back.

Search

When you submit a search, we count which player, club or possible transfer it was about, so we can see what supporters want covered. We never record what you type as you go, and we don’t keep a history of your searches: to count each person once, we use a code that changes every day and is deleted after two days. Searches we can’t match are kept as text for 30 days, without anything identifying you; daily totals are kept for 13 months. If you suggest a transfer, we keep the suggestion (and your account, if you’re signed in, or a scrambled version of your connection address if not, only to stop spam). Nobody else ever sees who searched for or suggested what. Our basis is legitimate interest in improving coverage. Search counts never affect any probability or score.

Cookies

Only what the site needs: a sign-in cookie, and small preference cookies (light or dark mode, demo or live data, your club). No consent banner is needed because none of them track you.

Your forecasts are a public record

Forecasts are timestamped and permanent, because the leaderboards and everyone’s scores depend on an unchangeable history. Your public name appears next to your calls on leaderboards and profiles.

Your rights

You can download everything we hold and delete your account at any time from your page. Deleting removes your email, name, club and follows. Your past forecasts stay in the record but are no longer linked to you. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Who processes data for us

Hosting (Vercel), database (Supabase), sign-in emails (our email provider). AI processing (Anthropic) only reads published news articles, never your personal data.

How long we keep it

Account data until you delete your account. Unused sign-in links are deleted after a day. Server logs are kept by our hosting providers for their standard short periods.
